The Big Weave Abingdon
During Abingdon Arts Festival myself and Helen Jacobs worked alongside Larkmead's Yr 9 community arts team and the Oxfordshire Guild of Spinners Weavers and Dyers. We were trained by The Big Weave to make a community tapestry weaving for the Guildhall in Abingdon. The loom was taken out into Abingdon Market Place, to local primary schools, day centres and Lady Eleanor Court retirement housing in order that the local community could learn basic weaving techniques and provide the opportunity for all to weave.
The Big Weave is a coming together of artists and community to create a public art project which gives adults and children the opportunity to learn new skills and to participate in the creation of a unique community artwork.
